Experience
Dr. Shehebar is a double board certified surgeon specializing in colon and rectal surgery. He received his undergraduate degree in Anthropology from New York University and then obtained his medical degree from Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed his residency in General Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York.
Following this, he continued his training with a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He obtained a highly specialized skill set in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum and anus and received training in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.
He is also actively involved in the training of General Surgery residents at NYU Langone Hospital - Brooklyn. His clinical and research interests include the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diverticulitis, advanced colon and rectal cancers, and complex anorectal diseases, all of which he approaches in a minimally invasive manner. He also performs screening and therapeutic colonoscopies. Dr. Shehebar has contributed to several peer-reviewed articles and has authored several chapters in well-known medical textbooks on gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Shehebar is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the New York Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
