With an international career of more than two decades in institutions and optometric centers in the United States, Dr. Macarena Fernández-Baca Gutiérrez del Álamo is a specialist in many fields of Clinical Optometry. This includes both Pediatric and Geriatric Optometry, as well as Neuro-Optometry, Contact Lenses, Low Vision, Strabismus, Ampliopia and Vision Therapy. 

Professionally, she has served as an assistant professor at the University of Houston, also performing clinical duties at The New England College of Optometry and holding the position of Assistant Director and Coordinator of the Boston Center for Optometry. She has also served as Vice Chair of the Admissions Committee of the American Academy of Optometry, and has been involved in the optometric field in private practice.
