Dr. David Kimhy conducts his extensive clinical and academic work at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is the Director of the Experimental Psychopathology Laboratory and heads the New Interventions in Schizophrenia Program. His research work is characterized by integrating innovative approaches that facilitate the understanding and treatment of psychotic disorders, focusing on addressing the cognitive, affective and social processes that underlie severe mental illness.
Dr. Kimhy’s recent work includes two major studies funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in the USA - a multi-site, single-blind, randomized clinical trial that examined the efficacy of aerobic exercise in improving neurocognition and daily functioning in people with schizophrenia. A second experimental study examined the impact of sleep on neurocognition and functioning in people with schizophrenia.
Dr. Kimhy's more than two decades of experience have made him an international leader on cognitive and behavioral interventions aimed at improving the cognitive, affective and social functioning of patients with schizophrenia. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journal and his work has been reported by NBC News, Scientific American and New York Magazine.
Dr. Kimhy completed an NIMH funded post-doctoral research fellowship at Columbia University along with advanced training in CBT for psychosis at the Beck Institute.
