Más adelante, el trabajo de entrenadores y cuidadores de zoológicos permitió hacer las primeras aproximaciones a especies menos convencionales que las anteriores en un entorno controlado, es el caso de mamíferos marinos que viven al cuidado humano y que han tenido la posibilidad de interactuar de manera regular con las personas, para así desarrollar habilidades que pueden ser usadas en los entornos terapéuticos para el tratamiento de patologías físicas, neuronales y psicoemocionales.
