A leading orthopedic surgeon specialized in Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Javier Vaquero Martín is a reference in the fields of Hip and Knee Prosthesis, as well as in Sports Traumatology. Together with his team of specialists from the Traumatology Department of the Gregorio Marañón Hospital, he developed a new method for introducing antibiotics into the bone cement used to fix prosthetic implants. This research won the Basic Research Award in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology 2016. With this new method, it was possible to introduce antibiotics into bone cement to address the most common infections in joint prostheses.
He has done many papers published in both national and international journals, and has more than 500 communications to courses and congresses. In addition, he has been trained in hospitals in different European countries such as France and Italy. Thanks to the accumulation of experiences in Sports Medicine and injuries in this field, he wrote the book How to prevent and cure sports injuries, as well as various lines of research that have been published in the Spanish Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (REACA), Journal of Foot and Ankle, Monographs Update of the SEMCPT and the Spanish Journal of Occupational Traumatology (RETLA).
