Dr. Margarita Sánchez del Río is a specialist in Neurology with preferential dedication to the diagnosis and treatment of headaches. Her special interest in the study of the pathophysiology of migraines through functional neuroimaging and the mechanisms involved in headache pain, as well as in migraine with aura, pathogenic mechanisms, migraine with aura as a vascular risk factor, have placed her in a referential sector of medicine in the most prestigious hospitals and as an active member of important organizations. 

She has worked as Head of the Headache Unit Development at the University Hospital Fundación Alcorcón, is a clinical collaborator at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra in Madrid and is Director of the headache program in the Headache Unit of the Neurology Department of the Hospital Ruber Internacional. She has several international stays to increase her knowledge in the field in cities such as Boston, New York and Philadelphia. 

As a clinical researcher she has conducted multiple trials on headache, migraine, cluster headache, identification of biomarkers of migraine chronification through the characterization of genetic and epigenetic variations. She has presented numerous papers and written communications in national and international congresses related to her specialty, which has earned her numerous awards and recognitions throughout her career. Not to mention the extensive activity as an author of scientific articles and contributions to books on her medical specialty.
