La creciente evidencia de la correlación entre problemas de salubridad y factores medioambientales ha favorecido el crecimiento del área de la Sanidad Pública Medioambiental. A medida que la industrialización y la urbanización avanzan, se incrementan los desafíos como la contaminación del aire y del agua, el cambio climático y la exposición a sustancias químicas tóxicas. Además, la globalización y los cambios en el uso del suelo han facilitado la propagación de enfermedades infecciosas. En este programa los alumnos ahondarán en métodos de control de la calidad de las aguas, así como en medidas de prevención de la contaminación. Ya que, fuentes como metales pesados, bacterias y productos químicos emergentes, representan riesgos significativos para la salud. Asimismo, se centrarán en la gestión del riesgo químico a nivel internacional, la clasificación de peligros y su comunicación a través del etiquetado de fichas de datos de seguridad. Además, podrán adquirir competencias para la evaluación, autorización y restricción de sustancias y mezclas químicas.  

Por otra parte, los egresados, profundizarán en gestión ambiental de enfermedades transmitidas por vectores, centrándose en los procesos de identificación, control y prevención. A su vez, adquirirán competencias para la implementación de estrategias integrales para reducir la presencia y el impacto y así proteger a las comunidades de afecciones como el dengue, la malaria o el Zika.
