Pérez-Castro Ellendt, Enrique
Director of the Urology Department of Clínica La Luz
Experience
Dr. Enrique Pérez-Castro Ellendt revolutionized urology worldwide in the 1980s after inventing and patenting the guided ureteroscope. This instrument allowed specialists to access large areas of the posterior urinary tract that were previously impossible to visualize. Thanks to this contribution, he was awarded the Bene Merenti Datur medal by the International Society for Endoscopic Urological Surgery.
Subsequently, he founded the Renal Extracorporeal Lithotripsy Unit at Clínica La Luz, a pioneer in Spain in the treatment of urinary tract stones with shock waves. All these medical innovations were made possible thanks to his extensive training in reference health institutions such as the Maryland Hospital in New Jersey in the United States or the Stuttgart Clinic in Germany.
Pérez-Castro Ellendt is still active, at the head of the Urology Service of the Clínica La Luz in Madrid, where he provides assistance to patients suffering from ailments such as renal lithiasis and different types of tumors.
