Dr. Candal Couto is one of the world's leading upper limb specialists. His in-depth knowledge in this field and his clinical skills have led him to be appointed as a traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. 

His extensive experience has led him to gain a broad background in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and the most advanced techniques for treating shoulder, elbow and upper limb trauma. He also regularly attends national and international congresses where he participates with other professionals in the latest advances in this area.  

His implication in this field is maximum, so he has developed a scientific work that has allowed him to make about 50 publications in various high impact journals. He has also been secretary of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society and chairman of the National Education Committee of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society (BESS).
